How to renew Brazilian passport in the USA
1) Check the documentation needed to renew your passport
The documentation required varies according to your age, marital status, gender and the city where you live. Therefore, check the website of the consulate serving your region what documents you must present to renew your passport.
However, keep in mind that the Consulate only accepts documents originals or (in some cases) certified copies. Simple copies of documents are not accepted when applying for your passport. And even if you have already renewed your passport before, you will have to present all the documents again. After processing and checking at the Consulate, the documentation you sent will be returned along with your renewed passport.
Note: the Consulate will not renew the passport you have in your hands. They will issue a new document.
2) Fill out your online form (request common passport – PACOM)
First of all, fill in the online form - apply for common passport - PACOM.Soon after, the system will generate a form with a protocol number (application delivery receipt). You must print, sign and paste your 2×2 photo in the corresponding space. At the Hartford and New York Consulates, this form must be asigned in front of the notpublic arium, if the passport renewal is requested through the post.
Observation: At the Hartford and New York Consulates, this form must be signed in front of the notary public, if the passport renewal is requested through the post.
3) See if your documentation is correct and what the next steps are
The next step is to send a photo of the documents via e-consular system. All information must be provided and photos of all required documents must be attached. Finally, the Consulate will analyze the process and inform you what the next step is – whether asking for a correction, or providing guidance on sending documents or scheduling.
We suggest that you pay extra attention to the documents required. As the request does not undergo analysis, if something is wrong they can simply reject your process.
4) Send the documents by mail or schedule a visit to the Consulate.
Currently, Consulates only provide face-to-face services with prior appointment via the E-consular platform. And even then, most are only accepting passport applications by mail.
If the Consulate in your region accept an appointment, make your appointment and then show up with all the required documents (originals and copies). If you are sending the process by mail, check all documents and copies before sending. Don't forget to include a stamped USPS priority mail return envelope for the Consulate to send the documents to your home after your new passport is ready.
The delivery time varies according to each consulate, but the average is between 3 and 4 weeks after the documentation is delivered to the Consulate. For requests made in person, the Consulate may deliver the passport at the same time, but it is a good idea to check this information beforehand.
5) Receive your document and have a good trip!
Finally, after following all the previous steps correctly you will receive your passport and be able to travel without worries. This is the last and most anticipated step. But first of all, remember that you must sign your new passport!
Now that the document is in hand and signed, it's time to pack your bags and leave for your destination.
