President William Ruto's busy week of development tours across Samburu and Ukambani regions
President William Ruto's week was a whirlwind of development initiatives and diplomatic engagements, showcasing his commitment to transforming Kenya's infrastructure, economy, and social sectors. From the northern regions to the Ukambani counties, Ruto's itinerary was packed with groundbreaking ceremonies, inspections, and high-level meetings.
The week began with a focus on Samburu, where Ruto launched the Archer's Post Affordable Housing Project, a significant investment of Sh7.4 billion, and laid the foundation stone for the Baragoi Modern Market, a Sh190 million facility. These projects aim to stimulate socio-economic growth and provide opportunities for citizens to engage in meaningful enterprise.
In Samburu, Ruto also emphasized the importance of development in promoting peaceful coexistence and income-generating activities. He flagged off the tarmacking of the Kisima–Sura Adoru Road, a 20km stretch that will eventually connect to Wamba and Merille in Marsabit County, integrating marginalized regions into productive economic networks.
Ruto's tour also included a visit to Sirata, where he broke ground for a 340-bed hostel at the Samburu West Technical and Vocational College, addressing student accommodation challenges and improving learning outcomes.
The President then shifted his focus to Ukambani, starting with Makueni. He commissioned the Kasikeu and Mikuyuni bridges, resolving longstanding land issues by issuing over 2,000 title deeds. Ruto emphasized that infrastructure projects in Makueni would reduce transport costs, expand trade, and increase farmers' earnings.
In Kitui, Ruto held a meeting with UBA and Heirs Holdings Group Chairman Tony Elumelu, who committed $1 billion to infrastructure development in Kenya. This partnership aligns with Kenya's agenda on power generation, food security, and road and rail expansion.
Ruto's tour continued with inspections and launches in Kitui and Machakos. He issued 15,000 title deeds in Mwingi North, launched the tarmacking of the Kamuwongo–Kandwia road, and inspected the Kamuwongo Fresh Produce Market. He also flagged off the Last Mile Electricity Project, connecting 20,000 homes.
In Machakos, Ruto announced a Sh200 million contribution towards the Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital in Mutito. He launched the Kangundo–Kivaani and Kivandini–Miseleni roads, part of a Sh3 billion road upgrade plan. Ruto also commissioned Phase 1 of the Machakos Affordable Housing Programme, handing over 220 new homes, and broke ground for Phase 2, which will deliver 570 units.
Throughout the week, Ruto emphasized the government's investment in affordable housing, modern markets, and student hostels, with a total investment of Sh25 billion in Machakos alone. He also highlighted ongoing electrification efforts and approved compensation for residents affected by the Miwongoni Dam.
