Until and unless you take risk, you cannot achieve your goal. But it's also true that even if you are prepared to take risks, you may not attain success. The 1960 film "Devi" (The Goddess) directed by maestro Satyajit Ray depicted a society full of superstitions; simultaneously it highlighted the rise of scientific thoughts, revolts against backward thoughts, simultaneous flow of critical thinking. It's a perfect portrayal of that patriarchal society, where women were prey to blind faith. It shows young people who challenged regressive thoughts of the time. But it also portrays the strength of superstitions, power of illogical thoughts, and the humongous influence of a backward mass. That lead to the defeat of the rebellious young man (actor - Soumitro Chatterjee) who tried his best to rescue his wife from the clutch of superstitions and unscientific thoughts which were reigning at that time.Devi is relatable even today. In the present day world, a massive number of people are still buried under the demands of superstition-driven society, which is leading to different types of mental health issues. In this film, Ray showed his mastery over the medium - starting from script, character development, imageries, lighting to super efficient editing.Still Satyajit Ray was criticized by many. Some critics took the film as an attack on Hinduism. Ray clarified that the film was not against any religion. But the fact is, society at large never understands brilliant minds at the right point of time.Fortunately, it got released and Ray received President's Silver Medal for the best Bengali feature film and was nominated for Cannes Film Festival (1962).Do you think that Devi is still relevant?(Video-rights belong to the owner)

Leaders know that it's easy to lead general mass; but super talented people like Albert Einstein live in their own thought-world, where they are the emperors. Netflix 2024 docudrama "Einstein and the Bomb" shows how Einstein was thrown away from Hitler-lead Nazi Germany, but couldn't crumble him.In 1939, Einstein warned President Franklin D Roosevelt about the fact that Germany was trying to develop atomic weapons. Einstein didn't want Nazis to get benefitted from atomic weapons. Though he signed the letter written by physicst Leo Szilard, he repented for that throughout his life. The letter signed by Einstein helped in developing atomic bomb in the United States. This film shows how Einstein remained tormented after signing the letter. The film has tried to blend ethical questions along with the journey of a theoretical physicist. Those who think ahead of their time, get brutally tortured by the society. Giordano Bruno was burned to death, Baruch Spinoza got excommunicated and more. Einstein was thrown away from his land penniless. His favorite violin was destroyed. This docu-drama with its archival footage, personal letters, newspaper clips, interviews, etc gives a glimpse of the significant period of Einstein's life. With non-linear storytelling and the subject, the film is for a niche audience. But those who want to watch this film, and if they're interested to know more about Einstein, they will come to know about his struggles, which is not known widely, his intellectual honesty, his love for truth, his moral courage and his love for humanity. Director of this docudrama is Anthony Philipson. Aidan McArdley played the role of Einstein.(Video-rights belong to the owner)

Do you like biopics? Have you watched the 2015 film, "Steve Jobs"? The film was directed by Danny Boyle. Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs deserves appreciation. Though Steve Job's unusual childhood experiences were not there in the script, but if you dive deeper into the film, the character of Steve Jobs (actor - Michael Fassbender) may remind the visionary person's excitement along with the internal turbulence of Steve Jobs, which may be one of the reasons of not so normal background of him.Supporting actors like Kate Winslet (as Joanna Hoffman), Seth Rogen (as Steve Wozniak), Jeff Daniels (as John Sculley) and Makenzie Moss, Ripley Sobo & Perla Haney-Jardine (as different phases of Lisa Brennan-Jobs) are super. They have contributed a lot in making this an interesting movie. The film's pacing added a special flavor to this film. The non-linear structure of the film with Jobs' role in three product launches played a crucial role in this film.Seasoned film goers will find referring to Bob Dylan's lyrics by Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender) and Joan Baez intriguing. Russell Carpenter's camera efficiently captured the changes in technology and design over a time period. The final sequence where Steve Jobs is walking is interestingly created by the director. He blended Michael Fassbender's act with the actual footage of Steve Jobs. The editor's job here is brilliant and praiseworthy. This real-footage integration has added alluring spice to the film. This creative depiction of a significant phase of Steve Jobs' life is a must-watch.(Video-rights belong to the owner)

Last year, in the month of August, 557,057 people lost their jobs. This year, many branches of lots of stores and companies are getting closed. This retail apocalypse is an indication of the decreasing value of human employees. Since 2015, this trend has started accelerating. Shift to e-commerce and changing consumer behavior, etc, have an important role in this.Thousands of people have lost jobs in this period of historical closures. Some examples are: Sears (over 3,500 closures), Kmart (2100+ closures), JCPenny (150+ closures), Gap (350+ closures), and more. This is the time when we should give more importance to upskilling, reskilling, and continuous learning. People should think seriously about entrepreneurship and small businesses.Watch the 2010 movie The Company Men; it dealt with corporate downsizing and layoffs. Life throws you up at times. You become too happy. Then suddenly throws you down in the dungeon. There is no logic in this.Just like that, social media algorithms' behaviors are erratic and illogical. Here, HI (Human Intelligence) is far better than AI. Human editors of high-quality journals or magazines and more always prefer valuable writeups or articles, etc. But, social media algorithms favor repetitive content, even if those are of low quality. It's time to consider this issue seriously. Otherwise, writers or other creators will find out alternative platforms and start contributing there.(Video-rights belong to the owner)

How important is music or musical instruments in your life? Can you imagine yourself struggling alone in a war-devastated world, and still find it hard to live without music or your musical instrument? The 2002 film, "The Pianist", an adaptation of an autobiography of the same name, talks about this. The story revolves around Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody); he's a Polish-Jewish radio station pianist. It was the period of World War II. Szpilman gets separated from his family. It reminds the importance of resilience. "You took everything I had. You took my violin. You took my soul..."Only a passionate musician can talk like this. In this age of artificial intelligence, such films remind us where humans are special.(Video-rights belong to the owner)

How many of you work with full sincerity and attention? Are you dedicated to your work? Are you becoming prey to professional jealousy? It's not new. It happened in India in 1981 - Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay had to take recourse to suicide. Tge film, "Ek doctor ki maut" is based on the true story of the Indian doctor Subhash Mukhopadhyay. He pioneered in-vitro fertilization (IVF) In the 1990 Hindi film, "Ek Doctor Ki Maut," director Tapan Sinha gave a creative expression to the real-life story of Doctor Subhash Mukhopadhyay. The film showed how talented people often do not get recognition that they deserve due to professional jealousy. Constant pressure, false allegations, conspiracy, and groupism lead doctor Subhash Mukhopadhyay to kill himself. In the film, though the director used the term "maut" (Death), he avoided showing it. The film showed how unchecked ambition, jealousy, competitive mindset, and lack of ethics can destroy everything; on the other hand, it indicated how much such inventors need mental support. The film got several awards, including the National Award for Best Film on Social Issues (1991), the National Film Award for Best Director (Tapan Sinha, 1991).(Video-rights belong to the owner)

In the last few days, I didn't post anything. None asked me why I didn't. It showed how alienated we are from each other. Everyone's is busy in their own lives. Let me tell you why I took the break (though it may seem ridiculous to you).I found out that though I tried my best to write on films of yesteryear and the current ones, the algorithm was not supporting my posts. I wanted to know the reason behind that.Secondly, and most importantly, digital detox is a must for everyone. I did and will go on doing it.🎥This couple has come to their son's football match. The husband is blind and probably deaf too; so standing behind her husband, the wife is trying to explain what is going on. But how? She is trying to explain every move by using her husband's back and her fingers!!!It's incredible!Video rights belong to the owner.
