Who We Are
A sisterhood that builds confidence and inspires Action
Lenora Ashmore Blackiston, Julia Gardiner Tyler Wilson, Mary Sommerville Sparks Hendrick, Sara Turner White
Four women and a vision.
In 1897 at State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia, four women forever forged their friendship by creating the sisterhood we know today as Kappa Delta. Now, 125 years later, Kappa Delta has 167 collegiate chapters and over 200 active alumnae chapters filled with inspiring, confident women. When you join Kappa Delta, you join a network of friendship, leadership, confidence and action.

How to Join
Kappa Delta’s Guiding Principles
Sprung from such a pure source – the friendship of four young women – these tenets of Kappa Delta are principles that all members hold true.
01
Our Mission
Kappa Delta Sorority is a national organization for women committed to: encouraging members to live with integrity and honor in the bonds of lifelong friendship; building confidence in members to excel in college and throughout their lives; inspiring members to be active leaders, responsible citizens and engaged members of the community; and providing opportunities and experiences that foster personal and professional growth for a lifetime.
02
Our Vision
Kappa Delta Sorority provides experiences that build confidence in women and inspire them to action through the power of lifelong friendship.
03
Our Values
Our four values – friendship & loyalty, personal integrity, lifelong learning, and selfless service – were created by our founders to help each Kappa Delta woman become the best version of herself.
04
Our Purpose
The purpose of Kappa Delta Sorority is to promote true friendship among the college girls of our country by inculcating into their hearts and lives those principles of truth, of honor, of duty, without which there can be no true friendship.
05
Our Open Motto
Ta Kala Diokomen
Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful and highest.
06
Our Creed
May we, Sisters in Kappa Delta, strive each day to seek more earnestly the honorable and
beautiful things.
May we each day through love of those within our circle, learn to know and understand better those without our circle.
May the diamond shield that guards our love find us each day Truer, Wiser, More Faithful, More Loving, and More Noble.
Our Values
When creating Kappa Delta, our founders set out to create a sisterhood where each woman could grow into the best version of herself – instilling learning, integrity, service and friendship into each Kappa Delta.

On this #WhyKDWednesday, hear from a chapter president Natalie Morehouse (Zeta Sigma-Charleston) about what makes Kappa Delta special to her. “Before college, I thought of sororities as just a way to make friends. But Kappa Delta has shown me it’s about joining a sisterhood. Now, when I think of ‘sorority,’ I remember the fulfilling friendships and fond memories I’ve made. I can’t imagine my college experience without Kappa Delta. I fell in love with it during recruitment, drawn to the genuine interactions and contagious positive energy. The connection among the sisters was something I didn’t want to miss. Being part of this chapter has helped me find my place, given me a supportive community, and boosted my confidence. Serving as chapter president has been my biggest blessing in college. I adore this sorority and these girls, and I’m forever thankful for the impact they’ve had on my life. I’m proud to be a KD.” 💚💚💚
